Baghdad: The Ministry of Agriculture is actively exploring mechanisms to advance the date industry to support local production. The Ministry, through its Horticulture Department, recently discussed strategies to develop the date sector and enhance its production and marketing during a meeting between the department’s Director General, Hatem Karim Al-Ghazi, and Sabah Al-Baghdadi, advisor to the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce and head of the Iraqi Date Council.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting focused on mechanisms to support date production and marketing, develop related processing industries, and prepare for the second specialized date exhibition. This exhibition will feature participation from international organizations, aiming to support local products and open broader horizons for their marketing and export.
Al-Ghazi highlighted the importance of unifying efforts between the public and private sectors to advance the date sector, enhance the economic value of Iraqi products, and support their presence in local and international markets.
