Brussels: The European Union has condemned the increasing acts of settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and is urging Israel to stop expanding its settlements. This statement reflects the EU’s ongoing concern over the situation in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, European Commission spokesperson for foreign affairs, Anwar Al-Anouni, emphasized at a press conference that settlements are considered illegal under international law. He highlighted the EU’s consistent calls for Israel to cease all settlement activities and expansions, which have been a point of contention in the peace process.

Al-Anouni elaborated on the measures the EU has taken against Israelis involved in violence against Palestinians. The European Union has implemented three sets of sanctions targeting extremist settlers and their affiliated organizations. These measures fall under the EU’s global human rights sanctions regime, aiming to address human rights violations and support peace efforts.

The sanctions currently affect 12 individuals and 9 organizations linked to violent settler activities. Furthermore, the EU is discussing additional proposals to extend these sanctions, as part of its commitment to promoting peace and security in the region.
