Baghdad: Iraq and Armenia have taken significant steps towards enhancing their bilateral cooperation by holding political consultations and signing two memoranda of understanding. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the discussions on Tuesday, with a focus on strengthening relations and expanding cooperation across various sectors.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Mohammed Bahr Al-Uloom, welcomed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Armenia, Ani Avetisyan, and her delegation. The Undersecretary stressed the importance of these consultations as a vital platform for exchanging views and improving coordination between Iraq and Armenia. He expressed the strong commitment of both nations to advance their bilateral ties, with particular emphasis on economic and investment sectors.

Ambassador Bahr Al-Uloom highlighted Iraq’s recent political, security, and economic developments, underscoring the promising opportunities for enhancing economic and investment cooperation. He pointed out the various investment opportunities available in Iraq, inviting Armenian companies to take part and assured Iraq’s readiness to provide necessary facilities to boost Armenian business presence and trade.

Armenian Deputy Minister Ani Avetisyan expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to engage in these consultations, commending Iraq’s progress in multiple areas. She reiterated Armenia’s intention to elevate bilateral relations and expand joint cooperation to benefit both countries and their people.

The discussions also covered regional and international developments, with both parties underscoring the importance of supporting efforts for peace, security, and stability in the region. They agreed that these efforts are crucial for fostering a conducive environment for development and prosperity and for strengthening regional cooperation.

The political consultations concluded with the signing of two memoranda of understanding. The first agreement is between the Foreign Service Institute of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its Armenian counterpart, focusing on enhancing cooperation in diplomatic training. The second agreement involves the Ministries of Youth and Sports of both countries, aiming to foster cooperation and exchange expertise in related fields.
