Iraqi Oil Tanker Struck by Unknown Source in Territorial Waters


Baghdad: The Ministry of Oil announced that the tanker targeted in territorial waters is chartered by the Iraqi Oil Tankers Company. The ministry explained in a statement: “A tanker-type vessel, designated for storing fuel oil and chartered by the Iraqi Oil Tankers Company, was struck by an unknown source while within Iraqi territorial waters, resulting in minor material damage to the ship’s hull.”



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the incident did not result in any injuries among the ship’s crew, nor did it cause any leakage of its cargo into the water. The ministry added that the relevant authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident and working to determine the source and cause of the damage.



Earlier on Wednesday, the Ministry of Transport announced that a tanker-type vessel, designated for transporting fuel oil and flying the flag of the Republic of Panama, was struck by an unknown source at 5:30 AM while within Iraqi territorial waters.
