Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday that it has addressed more than 800 cases of online extortion, mostly targeting women, this year. Major General Miqdad Miri, Head of the Department of Relations and Media at the Ministry of Interior, highlighted the efforts to tackle this growing concern.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Major General Miri stated in a press release that specialized units have successfully addressed 864 cases of online extortion, handling them according to legal frameworks and preventative measures. The distribution of cases revealed that 763 victims were females and 101 were males.

He further emphasized the ongoing efforts by community police to protect citizens, offering both psychological and legal support while maintaining the complete confidentiality of reports. Major General Miri urged potential victims not to succumb to the threats posed by extortionists and encouraged immediate reporting through the emergency number 911 and official channels affiliated with the Ministry of Interior.
