Al-Sadr Demands Enhanced Oversight of Markets and Public Conduct in Najaf

Najaf: Muqtada al-Sadr, leader of the Sadrist Movement, has called for increased scrutiny and regulation of markets, restaurants, and butcher shops in Najaf. In a recent statement on the X app, al-Sadr emphasized the importance of maintaining Najaf’s status as the capital of Shi’ism and ensuring that no actions tarnish the city’s reputation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Sadr outlined several recommendations aimed at preserving the sanctity and health standards of the city. He urged the implementation of strict oversight of commercial establishments to ensure compliance with Sharia and health regulations, warning of potential action if these standards are not met. Additionally, al-Sadr called for female employees on public transportation, particularly on Iraqi Airways flights to Najaf, to observe the hijab dress code.

Al-Sadr also addressed the prohibition of certain goods and practices that violate both divine and human laws, as well as the use of the al-Sadr family’s image in commercial activities, deeming it inappropriate. He stressed the importance of safeguarding the reputation of both the Al-Sadr family and Najaf al-Ashraf, identifying these as critical issues that require immediate attention and action if necessary.
