Sheikh Al-Khazali: Sept. 30 a Pivotal Moment for Iraq’s Stability

Baghdad: Secretary-General of Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq Movement Sheikh Qais al-Khazali announced that September 30 marks a significant juncture for Iraq’s stability, emphasizing the war in the region has both ideological and strategic implications aimed at redrawing regional boundaries.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Khazali highlighted in an interview with Al-Iraqiya News that the potential downfall of the regime in Iran would have far-reaching effects beyond Iran, influencing neighboring countries across the region. He remarked on Iraq’s stance toward Iran, reflecting the views of the religious authorities, government, and populace, and noted that certain nations have initiated efforts to end Shi’ite governance in Iraq.

Al-Khazali underscored the necessity of placing weapons solely under state control to ensure the stability of state institutions. He asserted that Shi’ite political leaders bear a significant responsibility in this regard and that the Coordination Framework forces are united in their resolve to pursue this initiative. He stated that transferring weapons to state control would integrate them and their operators into the state system, with an intention to sever political and partisan ties once the fighters join state apparatus.

He further explained that the presence of weapons outside state institutions was due to the objective circumstances stemming from occupation and ISIS, and the success of this initiative requires addressing these underlying causes. Al-Khazali also stressed the need for Iraq to develop air defense systems to protect its airspace. He mentioned that no political leader supports the continued existence of weapons outside state institutions, and the project has the backing of the religious authority and the Coordination Framework.

Al-Khazali reiterated Iraq’s commitment to fostering positive relations with its Gulf and Arab neighbors.
