Al-Zaydi Pledges Ongoing Support for Agricultural Sector


Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering support for the agricultural sector and its dedication to overcoming the challenges that farmers face. In a recent meeting with a delegation from the General Union of Agricultural Cooperative Societies, Al-Zaydi emphasized the critical importance of advancing the sector to enhance local production and bolster food security.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the delegation, led by the Union’s President Wissam Saleh Mahdi, included representatives from the Najaf and Diwaniyah branches, along with a member of the Agricultural Coordination Committee in Najaf Governorate. During the meeting, they presented a detailed account of the current state of the agricultural sector, highlighting significant challenges such as the availability of fuel, fertilizers, pesticides, and other essential agricultural supplies.



Prime Minister Al-Zaydi assured the delegation of the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting the agricultural sector. He reiterated the importance of enhancing local production, strengthening food security, and supporting the national economy. Al-Zaydi stressed the pivotal role that farmers play in achieving these goals and underscored the necessity of providing the resources required to advance the sector, thereby improving production levels and the living standards of farmers.



Special emphasis was placed on the cultivation of fodder crops, particularly barley, which is crucial for livestock development and the sustainability of animal production. The Prime Minister directed that these crops receive focused attention, ensuring the necessary inputs are available to support their cultivation.
