Baghdad: Iraq has claimed first place at the World University Weightlifting Championships, securing three gold medals and setting a new world record in the over 116 kg category. This remarkable achievement was announced by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, marking a significant milestone for Iraqi university sports on an international platform.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Salah Al-Fatlawi, Head of the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority and President of the Iraqi University Sports Federation, emphasized that this victory is a testament to the progress of Iraqi university sports. He commended the athletes, coaching staff, and the entire Iraqi delegation for their outstanding effort and participation in the competition.

Ahmed Abdul-Jabbar, Head of the Delegation, attributed the success to the meticulous technical and training preparations undertaken ahead of the championships. He highlighted that this accomplishment showcases the capability of Iraqi students to excel and secure leading positions in global sporting events.

National team coach Mustafa Saleh Mahdi commented on the continuous training program that was implemented in preparation for the competition. He noted that these stringent preparations were crucial in achieving the desired performance level, underlining the ongoing development of university weightlifting in Iraq.
