Baghdad: Minister of Agriculture Abdul Rahim Jassim Al-Shammari met with the Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Begard Talabani, to discuss prospects for joint cooperation between the federal government and the regional government in the agricultural sector.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the two sides addressed various issues and challenges facing agricultural activities, with a focus on regulating production and marketing. They discussed enhancing the protection of plant and animal resources to benefit farmers and producers across the nation.
Al-Shammari highlighted the significance of strengthening cooperation between the federal and regional governments. He emphasized the need to unify efforts to advance the agricultural sector and protect national production, advocating for the adoption of successful mechanisms to address shared issues.
Minister Al-Shammari directed that outstanding issues be resolved through specialized joint committees. These committees are tasked with monitoring problems and obstacles, finding appropriate solutions, and holding regular meetings.
Begard Talabani underscored the importance of enhanced cooperation and coordination with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. She emphasized this as a means to contribute to the advancement of the agricultural sector and bolster food security.
The meeting was attended by the ministry’s undersecretaries, several directors general, and other officials.
