Basra: The Basra Traffic Directorate announced today the complete closure of the expressway towards Baghdad to carry out maintenance work and repair a sinkhole in the road.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the closure will affect the section extending from the Hammar Mushrif Bridge towards the 40-kilometer overpass, a distance of approximately 400 meters, and will last for 14 days. Traffic will be diverted to the other lane coming from Baghdad, with the road designated for two-way traffic during the work period.

The directorate emphasized that the contractor is obligated to place the necessary warning, directional, and lighting signs, while traffic patrols will be deployed near the closure site to regulate traffic flow. The directorate urged road users to be cautious and take necessary precautions while passing through the area, noting that this notice is being issued to inform citizens of the closure and traffic diversion.
