Basra: The Governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani, visited Al-Zubair General Hospital to meet with the victims of the recent ammonia gas leak. He instructed the medical personnel to focus on the victims’ health and ensure they receive all necessary medical care.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, following his hospital visit, Governor Al-Eidani inspected the fertilizer plant in the Khor Al-Zubair area, where the ammonia leak occurred. He aimed to assess the measures taken to mitigate the effects of the incident.
An informed source reported that the leak inside the plant led to the evacuation of workers to safeguard their well-being. The plant’s teams successfully contained the gas leak.
The Basra Civil Defense Directorate confirmed that their teams, under the supervision of Brigadier General Mazen Mohammed Lafteh, rescued ten employees from the facility. Unfortunately, the bodies of two workers who perished due to the leak were also recovered.
The directorate further stated that approximately 50 individuals experienced suffocation and were swiftly transported to medical facilities by ambulances from the Civil Defense and the Ministry of Health to receive treatment.
