New delhi: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that he held productive talks with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi. The discussions aimed at mending past differences and focusing on future cooperation between the two nations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Iranian president stated in a press conference, “We agreed to put the past aside and look to the future, and how we can build that future.” This significant dialogue occurs amidst a period of heightened military tension in the region, marked by the ongoing US-Iranian conflict since February. The situation has been exacerbated by exchanges of attacks in the Strait of Hormuz and strikes targeting Saudi energy facilities from Yemen.

The meeting between Pezeshkian and the Crown Prince is part of broader efforts by regional countries to de-escalate tensions and establish direct communication channels with Tehran. The Iranian president’s participation in the BRICS summit, which runs until September 13, included bilateral meetings with several leaders, notably Vladimir Putin and Narendra Modi.
