Baghdad: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) affirmed its support for ending the displacement crisis in partnership and cooperation with the Iraqi government.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Pascal Rentgens, Head of the IOM Mission in Iraq, stated to the Iraqi National News Agency (NINA) that “the strategy launched by the IOM in Iraq is based on three main global objectives, which are the same as the IOM’s own objectives: ‘Equality in saving lives, establishing safe pathways to end displacement in Iraq in cooperation with the government, and achieving safe and regular migration pathways.’ This work is being carried out through ongoing consultations with the government and supporting entities, including Iraqi partners.”

He added that “this general strategy will be discussed more broadly and translated into concrete plans and field programs covering all regions of Iraq in the near future, in cooperation with the government and the international community.”

The UN representative affirmed that “the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is working to find sustainable solutions to end displacement in cooperation with the Iraqi government, in accordance with standards that support return, community stability, and economic growth. Therefore, we are always ready to cooperate with the Iraqi government to achieve its goals of ending displacement.”

He continued, “There are still Iraqi citizens displaced in some areas, and therefore we are working with the Iraqi government, the international community, partners, and other UN agencies to find sustainable solutions and economic support to encompass all areas of Iraq and bring an end to the displacement crisis.”

The IOM in Iraq recently announced, in Baghdad and Erbil, the official launch of its Iraq Strategy 2025-2029, in the presence of representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Planning, Labor, and Migration and Displacement, as well as the UN mission, international organizations, and diplomatic missions operating in Iraq.
