Fidan Arrives in Damascus to Meet with Al-Sharaa and Discuss Cooperation with Syria


Damascus: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan arrived in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Sunday for a two-day official visit. During his visit, he is scheduled to meet with President Ahmed al-Sharaa to discuss strengthening cooperation between the two countries.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fidan will meet with his Syrian counterpart today and hold a joint press conference. Al-Sharaa will receive him later in the day.



The visit’s program also includes a meeting with Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab, according to the same sources.



Fidan’s talks in Damascus are expected to cover bilateral relations and Ankara’s efforts to establish stability, peace, and lasting prosperity in Syria.



Fidan’s visit comes amidst growing cooperation between Turkey and Syria in various fields since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, 2014.
