Basra: The Basra Health Department, in collaboration with the French company Total Energies, is considering the development of a 50-bed emergency building at Al-Zubair General Hospital. The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance healthcare services and infrastructure within the governorate.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Dr. Abbas Khalaf Al-Tamimi, Director General of the Basra Health Department, recently engaged in discussions with a delegation from Total Energies, a company active in the Artawi oil fields. The primary focus of their meeting was to explore potential community support strategies for health institutions and to advance the infrastructure of the medical sector in Basra.

The Health Department’s media office issued a press release detailing that the talks centered on various service projects, with the proposed construction of a new emergency building at Al-Zubair General Hospital being a primary topic. This new facility is intended to alleviate the strain on existing departments and enhance the delivery of urgent medical services to the district’s residents and neighboring areas.

Both parties have agreed to initiate official correspondence with the Basra Governorate Office to seek the necessary approvals to move forward with the project. Once approvals are secured, implementation procedures will commence.

Dr. Al-Tamimi highlighted that this collaboration is part of the Basra Health Department’s strategy to activate partnerships with international investment firms. The goal is to direct social responsibility efforts towards enhancing the health sector and improving public hospital facilities.
