Iraq: The Prime Minister, Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, affirmed on Sunday that efforts are underway to de-escalate tensions in the region and contribute to resolving its crises, noting that Iraq pursues an open foreign policy based on mutual respect and shared interests. According to Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s Media Office stated in a release that Al-Zaidi received a group of heads of research, study, and think-tank centers in Iraq.
The meeting focused on the current state of these centers, their roles in various fields, and mechanisms to better utilize their outputs, particularly studies and research that shape public policy and support decision-making. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of think tanks and research centers, stressing the government’s support for them.
He called for stronger communication and cooperation channels between these centers and state institutions, enhancing their presence and expanding their contribution to addressing issues and challenges facing the state and society. Al-Zaidi discussed the trajectories of Iraq’s foreign policy and the government’s plans and strategies in the political, security, and economic spheres.
He confirmed that Iraq is working to calm regional tensions and contribute to resolving crises, aligning with its role in supporting regional security and stability. Al-Zaidi further noted that Iraq seeks to build long-term economic and developmental partnerships worldwide, including with major international companies and institutions.
Regarding the economy, he explained that Iraq faces exceptional economic challenges due to regional conflicts and the Strait of Hormuz closure. The government supports and develops the private sector as a cornerstone for achieving development and economic diversification and is moving toward establishing a development fund and implementing projects for one million residential plots and new cities.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the vital role of think tanks and research centers in offering solutions to various issues shaping Iraq. He highlighted their potential to contribute to a developmental renaissance, urging openness to successful global experiences and adapting them to align with Iraq’s specific circumstances and needs.
Research center and think tank heads presented a range of insights, ideas, and proposals on economic and political matters, foreign relations, and mechanisms for enhancing communication and cooperation between government institutions and research organizations.
