The parliamentary finance committee affirmed on sunday its determination to grant permanent status to all contract employees and daily-wage workers within the 2027 budget:age workers within the 2027 budget, explaining that Parliament would provide the necessary financial coverage for this measure.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Committee Chairman Odai Awad stated, during a press conference held at the Council of Representatives, attended by fellow committee members and an Iraqi News Agency (INA) correspondent, that “meetings with Finance Minister Falih Sari, ministry officials, and the Board of Supreme Audit resulted in key observations and a consensus on the necessity of granting permanent status to contract employees and daily-wage workers in the 2027 general budget.”

Awad emphasized Parliament’s determination to eliminate any time-based restrictions and noted that there is a proposal to include those with two or three years of service in this measure. The move is aimed at ensuring job security and stability for a significant portion of the workforce.

He further explained that the Finance Committee insisted that the permanent status measure cover all contract employees and daily-wage workers across all sectors, including both profitable and loss-making companies. This comprehensive approach ensures that the necessary budget reallocations are made to support the initiative.

Awad concluded by asserting Parliament’s commitment to carrying out these reallocations, stating, “Should the budget arrive from the government without them, we will provide the necessary funding to execute the required reallocations.” This demonstrates the committee’s resolve to see the measure through to implementation, regardless of potential governmental budgetary omissions.
