Baghdad: Artistic and musical circles are awaiting the release in the coming days of a new song bringing together Iraqi singer Kadim Al Sahir and the words of late Egyptian poet Morsi Gameel Aziz, in a collaboration that will present one of the renowned poet’s works through a contemporary musical interpretation.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the poem was recorded in Cairo studios in recent days in Al-Saher’s voice, in the presence of Major General Magdy Morsi Gameel Aziz, the late poet’s son, along with a number of friends, journalists and musicians. The project follows a request made by the late poet’s family several months ago for Al-Saher to perform the poem. The singer welcomed the proposal, expressing his pleasure at the collaboration and saying that presenting a text by a poet of Morsi Gameel Aziz’s stature represents both an artistic tribute and a musical responsibility.

After reaching an agreement with the poet’s family, Al-Saher began working on and composing the poem, describing the experience as a new musical challenge, particularly because the text dates back to a poet who left a significant legacy in the history of Arabic song. Al-Saher said he was keen to present distinguished song lyrics, whether recently written or dating back many years, noting that his selection criteria are based on a work’s ability to retain its spirit while connecting with contemporary audiences.

Al-Saher described the poem as one of Morsi Gameel Aziz’s masterpieces and said he was proud to present it to Arab audiences, in a project that brings together the legacy of one of the most prominent poets of Arabic song with a new musical interpretation featuring Al-Saher’s voice and composition.
