Baghdad: The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral and Legal Affairs, Ambassador Shorsh Khalid Saeed, met today with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Iraq, Elbrus Kutrashev, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that the meeting also addressed the latest developments in the region, including the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict, and ways to enhance bilateral relations between the Republic of Iraq and the Russian Federation. The discussion focused on developing areas of joint cooperation to serve the interests of both friendly nations.

The two sides also discussed the elections held in the Russian Federation. The Undersecretary emphasized the importance of continued communication and coordination between the two countries. The Russian Ambassador noted that the Iraqi delegation was among the largest foreign delegations participating as observers in the electoral process, expressing his appreciation for Iraq’s participation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Russian Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the government and people of Iraq for the cooperation he received throughout his tenure in Iraq. He wished for the continued development of bilateral relations and offered the necessary support to the incoming Russian Ambassador to Baghdad.

For his part, the Undersecretary expressed his best wishes to the Russian Ambassador for success in his future missions. He emphasized Iraq’s welcome of the new Russian Ambassador and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ commitment to continuing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and expand the horizons of joint cooperation between the two countries.
