Baghdad:According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Minister emphasized that the protection of these vital rivers cannot depend on temporary solutions or mere recommendations. Instead, she highlighted the need for legal actions against entities responsible for polluting these water bodies.

In her statement on World Rivers Day, Abdul-Wahid called for genuine protection measures to counter the pollution and depletion threatening both the health of Iraqis and the country’s future. She pointed out that verbal pledges are insufficient and underlined the importance of implementing concrete actions to address the issue of waste discharge into these water resources.

Abdul-Wahid assured that the Ministry of Environment will persist in monitoring and identifying pollution sources, with a commitment to taking legal action against any violators. She declared that the Tigris and Euphrates should not be treated as dumping grounds and stressed that protecting them is a national responsibility crucial for safeguarding the health of Iraqis and the rights of future generations.
