Baghdad:Leader of the National Shiite Movement, Sayyid Muqtada Al-Sadr, announced the dissolution of the Promised Day Brigade on Wednesday.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sadr declared Iraq’s independence and the end of the U.S. and Global Coalition presence in the country. He credited the efforts of early resistance fighters and supporters for this achievement.
Al-Sadr outlined plans to transform the Imam’s Army into the Ansar al-Imam al-Mahdi institution. He also demanded that the U.S. Army pay compensation for damages from its occupation of Iraq and urged individuals to file legal complaints for the same.
He warned the United States and neighboring countries against interfering in Iraqi affairs, suggesting that such actions could lead to severed relations and reciprocal treatment. Al-Sadr emphasized the need for reciprocal diplomatic conduct from the U.S. and urged them to avoid a condescending attitude toward Iraq.
To conclude the occupation, Al-Sadr listed specific measures: placing all weapons under state control through a well-planned program, encouraging political leaders to retire and make way for new figures to combat corruption, and strengthening security forces, especially the Border Guard Forces.
