London:The British Foreign Office has reiterated its commitment to supporting Iraq’s security and stability, emphasizing the development of a sustainable bilateral defense partnership with Iraqi partners.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Foreign Office issued a statement coinciding with the conclusion of the international coalition’s mission in Iraq. The statement highlighted that the security partnership between the United Kingdom and Iraq is transitioning into a new phase following the end of the coalition’s military mission against ISIS, known as Operation Inherent Resolve, and the withdrawal of coalition forces, including British troops.
The statement further asserted Britain’s unwavering commitment to Iraq and the broader region. It emphasized a decade of close cooperation and expressed anticipation for further developing a defense partnership with Iraq. The focus will be on counterterrorism cooperation, military education, capacity building, defense industry cooperation, and advancing shared security interests.
