Iraqi Prime Minister Promises Economic Diversification and New Generations Fund

Accra:Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi has confirmed that his administration is actively working to diversify Iraq’s economy and is making progress in establishing the Generations Fund.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during a speech celebrating the National Day of the Republic of Iraq, Al-Zaidi emphasized Iraq’s historical milestones, including its status as the first Arab country to join the League of Nations and its role in founding the United Nations.

Al-Zaidi acknowledged the challenges Iraq has faced since gaining independence, including political instability that hindered development. He highlighted the democratic progress made since 2003, with Iraqis ratifying a permanent constitution to ensure the peaceful transfer of power.

The Prime Minister noted that Iraq regained full sovereignty on September 30, 2026, after the end of the International Coalition’s military mission. He emphasized Iraq’s control over its own decisions and defense capabilities, with all weapons under the authority of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

Addressing economic and regional challenges, Al-Zaidi stated that Iraq is working on diversifying the economy, developing global partnerships, and empowering the private sector. Additionally, the government aims to implement a ‘program and performance’ budget, provide one million residential plots, and establish economic cities.

Al-Zaidi also pledged to continue fighting corruption and protecting public funds, asserting the importance of national unity and social harmony to transition from crisis management to future-building. He reaffirmed the commitment to prioritize Iraqi interests, focus on citizens’ needs, and strive for a strong and just state.
