Rome:Iraq has experienced significant financial setbacks amounting to $60 billion due to the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, as confirmed by Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Foreign Minister Hussein met with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, in Rome on Thursday. During their meeting, they discussed the development of bilateral relations and mutual cooperation, as well as regional and international events.
The discussions also covered the potential for enhancing security and military cooperation, particularly in the context of the International Coalition’s post-mission phase in Iraq. They addressed longstanding financial and military issues with the Italian government and companies dating back to the previous Iraqi regime.
Additionally, the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on European security and its regional repercussions were examined. Hussein expressed gratitude for Italy’s support during Iraq’s fight against terrorism and highlighted Italy’s role in training Iraqi forces.
Hussein emphasized the importance of European involvement in peaceful initiatives and negotiations to reduce conflicts. The ongoing US-Iran conflict has not only caused substantial economic losses for Iraq but also worsened the global energy crisis and inflation concerns affecting economies worldwide.
Antonio Tajani acknowledged the robust Iraqi-Italian relations and reiterated Italy’s commitment to supporting Iraq in various sectors. The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to maintain communication and coordination on shared concerns, and Hussein extended an invitation for Tajani to visit Iraq.
