OIC Meeting in Baghdad Focuses on Al-Quds, Gaza, and Regional Security

Baghdad:Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced that Al-Quds and Gaza were key topics at the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states. This event marked the second time Baghdad hosted the session, the first being 45 years ago.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Iraqi government ensured the session’s success, which saw participation from 55 countries, 50 organizations, 22 foreign ministers, and 601 delegates. Additionally, 180 media representatives covered the session, which was attended by Iraq’s Prime Minister. Iraq has assumed the chairmanship for this session.

The meetings emphasized the importance of de-escalation and the need for dialogue and mediation to resolve conflicts. Iraq plans to collaborate with the OIC General Secretariat and member states on the recommendations and outcomes of the “Baghdad Declaration.” Hussein mentioned Iraq’s initiative to mediate between the Gulf states and Iran, which has been reactivated, and plans are underway to host a new meeting on this matter in Baghdad.

Hussein highlighted Baghdad’s hosting of the session as a sign of the country’s security and its growing role in international diplomacy. Iraq has presided over international platforms such as the Group of 77 at the United Nations and the Arab League Summit.

The session’s success is seen as a victory for Iraqi diplomacy, showcasing the support Iraq receives from the international community. As chair, Iraq will prioritize regional security and stability, working within the “6+2” framework to address conflicts, promote peace, and foster economic development.
