Sheikh Hammoudi Advocates Dialogue to Address Iraq’s Security Issues

Basra:Sheikh Hammam Hammoudi, head of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council, emphasized that engaging in dialogue with armed factions is crucial for resolving Iraq’s security challenges. He outlined a phased approach for agreements with these factions, starting with a cessation of attacks and confidence-building measures, each phase lasting three months.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Hammoudi, speaking at the Dialogue Forum in Basra Province, highlighted the government’s efforts to end the presence of foreign military forces in Iraq, including Turkish and NATO troops. He also mentioned that an agreement had been reached to withdraw the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and that efforts were ongoing to disarm Iranian Kurdish opposition parties in northern Iraq.

Hammoudi warned against attempts by some parties to disrupt efforts to control weapons, underscoring the importance of awareness and sound judgment in maintaining stability and protecting Iraq’s political system. On the economic front, he linked economic activity to the regular payment of public sector salaries and highlighted the prime minister’s challenge in maintaining the official exchange rate of the US dollar.

Furthermore, Hammoudi supported the prime minister’s prohibition on additional salaries for himself and his deputies. Regarding the Coordination Framework, he noted that the alliance had begun organizing its structure, forming committees to address strategic issues such as security, economics, politics, and services, and to develop state-level solutions.

Hammoudi also commented on international matters, noting rapid transformations globally and increasing isolation for Israel. He concluded by stressing the importance of safeguarding Iraq’s independent decision-making, raising public awareness, and coordinating efforts to bolster the country’s sovereignty and stability, ultimately fulfilling the aspirations of the Iraqi people.
