Accra:US Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright, announced that oil flows from the Gulf region have now reached 80% of their pre-war levels.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Wright emphasized that President Donald Trump is committed to ensuring that his successor does not inherit an Iran equipped with nuclear weapons. Wright clarified that Trump’s decisions on the Iranian threat are not influenced by electoral motives.
Wright also addressed the ongoing diesel crisis, noting that the United States is currently in discussions with European nations to unlock significant fuel stockpiles, although he characterized their response as slow. He mentioned that any relaxation of sanctions on Russian exports would be confined strictly to diesel fuel.
On October 9, an agreement was reached between President Vladimir Putin and President Trump concerning the supply of Russian diesel to global markets. Following this, the US Department of the Treasury issued a general license permitting the purchase of Russian diesel until April 7 of the following year.
Wright previously highlighted that increased use of alternative pipelines, which avoid the Strait of Hormuz, has contributed to stabilizing supplies and securing global trade. He noted that the United States has effectively blocked Tehran from using “economic pressure,” specifically the threat to close the Gulf, as a bargaining chip.
