Baghdad:The National Investment Commission (NIC) pinpointed four primary reasons for the influx of local capital into the real estate sector, as opposed to the industrial, agricultural, or technological sectors. It was noted that residential projects represent between 45% and over 60% of the total investment volume.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Hanan Jassim, spokesperson for the Commission, stated that the housing, construction, and new residential city sector is at the forefront in securing investment licenses. Reports and investment maps from the Commission highlight that large-scale residential projects, including both horizontal and vertical housing complexes, make up a significant portion of investments, both licensed and currently underway.
The preference for the real estate sector is attributed to the perceived security of returns and the increasing demand for housing units due to the ongoing housing crisis. Jassim emphasized that the government and the NIC are proactively supporting major residential city projects to provide hundreds of thousands of housing units by issuing extensive investment licenses.
