Al-Fayyad Announces Upcoming Introduction of PMF Service and Retirement Law

Baghdad: The head of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), Faleh al-Fayyad, has announced plans to submit the PMF service, retirement, and organizational structure law within the next two weeks. This announcement comes as Iraq navigates a significant transition following the withdrawal of American forces from the country.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Fayyad emphasized the importance of this legislative development during a televised interview. He stated that Iraq is entering a new phase that requires the regulation of international relations in a manner that benefits the nation’s interests. Furthermore, he highlighted that Iraq is poised to experience a period of stability, with all weapons coming under state control. Al-Fayyad expressed that the restriction of weapons to military operations alone does not contribute to the country’s stability and is not a feasible approach.

The withdrawal of American forces is seen by al-Fayyad as a reason for celebration among patriotic Iraqi citizens who seek stability in their country. He noted that the current security and economic challenges present an opportunity for Iraq to embark on a new era. Al-Fayyad also addressed the notion of differences in political positions, stating that such differences do not necessitate conflict or hostility with any party.

Concluding his remarks, al-Fayyad reaffirmed his responsibility within the PMF and asserted that he would step down from his position if he ever felt incapable of fulfilling his duties. He stated that only the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has the authority to remove him from his position.
