Baghdad: Head of the National State Forces Alliance, Ammar Al-Hakim, affirmed that Iraq is experiencing a clear phase of recovery, reflected in the conclusion of the missions of the International Coalition and the United Nations Assistance Mission, in addition to the success of the electoral process and the smooth announcement of its results. He noted that the broad voter turnout conveyed a message of consolidating electoral support around specific political forces within the country’s various components.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, during a gathering with political and social elites at the Baghdad Diwan on Saturday evening, Al-Hakim praised the participants’ interventions, extending his congratulations on the anniversary of the birth of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) and the advent of the New Year, while recalling the sacrifices and legacy of the leaders of victory.
Al-Hakim pointed out that the election of the Speaker of Parliament and his deputies was conducted based on prior understanding and consultation, stressing the existence of a political will to shorten constitutional timelines in order to accelerate achievements.
He added that the Coordination Framework had requested candidates for the post of Prime Minister to present their priorities, programs to address challenges, and proposed work teams, which led to the formulation of a comprehensive vision on the basis of which nine candidates were selected. He described this as a sign of the maturity of Iraq’s political experience, noting that the approach was met with regional and international understanding.
Al-Hakim explained that the upcoming challenge lies primarily in the economic sphere, particularly fluctuations in oil prices, considering the crisis to be short-term and a genuine opportunity to pursue economic reforms, despite the difficulties that may accompany their initial stages.
He also emphasized the importance of confining weapons to the authority of the state through a balanced Iraqi approach that takes past circumstances into account, in cooperation with a fully empowered elected government, under international guarantees and political participation.
Furthermore, Al-Hakim called on elites to propose realistic and innovative solutions to current challenges, underscoring that reform is an unavoidable choice. He stressed the need to pass strategic legislation requiring a two-thirds majority and to enhance dialogue and understanding among political blocs to facilitate government formation.
He also urged the empowerment of qualified professionals in government positions through specialized committees, support for the private sector and small enterprises instead of expanding public-sector employment, and greater attention to the rights of persons with disabilities. Al-Hakim reaffirmed the importance of the constitution as a unifying national reference and confirmed Iraq’s aspiration to play a proactive role in supporting regional stability.
