Baghdad: Head of the State Forces Alliance, Ammar al-Hakim, affirmed on Monday that the call to place all weapons under state control is not a political slogan, emphasizing that decisions of war and peace and the use of force are the exclusive responsibility of the state.

According to Iraqi News Agency, al-Hakim made these remarks during a ceremony marking the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. He highlighted that the birth anniversary is not only a commemoration of a significant historical figure but also represents a pivotal message that transformed history, restored human dignity, and moved societies from ignorance and injustice to knowledge and justice. He emphasized that the Prophet Muhammad embodied a unique blend of mercy and justice, gentleness and firmness, and morality and responsibility.

Al-Hakim further elaborated that mercy without justice could lead to weakness, while justice without mercy could result in cruelty. He noted that the Prophetic approach successfully merged justice, which safeguards rights, with mercy, which protects humanity. He cited this approach as a model of responsible mercy needed in families, societies, and states today.

He urged that placing weapons under state control should not be seen as a political slogan but as a step towards the completion of a strong state. He advocated for dialogue as a means to protect social peace and emphasized loyalty to the sacrifices made for a strong, secure, and united Iraq. Al-Hakim explained that state control over weapons is essential for constructing a sovereign state and called for a national process involving dialogue and gradual implementation.

Al-Hakim also stressed the importance of law as a governing reference for all, without exception, and highlighted that pluralism can coexist with the unity of the state. He warned against sectarianism and hate speech, which could threaten the unity of Iraqis.
