Baghdad: PM Ali Al-Zaidi affirmed on Monday that the government seeks to expand avenues of cooperation across all fields and sectors with Russia. Al-Zaidi met with the Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Shugayev, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of the Russian Ambassador to Iraq.

According to Iraqi News Agency, during the meeting, the two sides discussed prospects for military cooperation between Iraq and Russia and ways to further develop bilateral relations and joint cooperation through activating agreements and memoranda of understanding, in a manner that supports the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces across their various branches.

The Prime Minister expressed ‘Iraq’s pride in its bilateral relations with the Russian Federation,’ affirming that ‘the government seeks to expand avenues of cooperation across all fields and sectors, particularly in light of the historical ties shared by the two friendly countries.’

In turn, the Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of the Russian Federation affirmed his country’s commitment to developing bilateral relations with Iraq and reiterated Moscow’s desire to continue joint coordination in combating terrorism and strengthening regional and international security.
