Najaf: Head of the Hikma Movement, Ammar al-Hakim, expressed his categorical rejection of any external dictates on political decisions in Iraq. In a speech commemorating the anniversary of the passing of Sayyid Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, held at the Martyr of the Mihrab Shrine in Najaf, amidst a large gathering of Hikma supporters and leaders, he stated, ‘We categorically reject any attempt to impose external dictates on Iraq’s decisions or the choices of its groups, for any reason whatsoever. Iraq is an independent and sovereign constituent country and does not need guardianship. We know our own circumstances and affairs best, and we can choose what is most beneficial for our country and our people.’
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Hakim added, “Commemorating the beloved of Iraq today is a commemoration of a foundational stage in our country’s history, and a responsible pause for self-reflection before it becomes a moment of nostalgia for the recent past.”
Regarding the country’s political situation, Al-Hakim emphasized the need for collective responsibility, stating, ‘Our collective responsibility requires us to expedite the fulfillment of constitutional requirements and form a government based on a clearly defined program.’
Al-Hakim also addressed the ongoing political stalemate, remarking, ‘The political stalemate we are experiencing today is not a passing disagreement, nor a delay that can be overcome with patience alone. Rather, it is a drain on state institutions, a shaking of public trust, and a weakening of Iraq’s standing in its regional and international environment.’
He concluded by stressing that “Iraq today cannot afford the luxury of open conflicts, nor can it tolerate the paralysis of its institutions. Political blocs are called upon today to make responsible concessions over their own gains.”
