Baghdad: The head of the National State Forces Alliance, Ammar Al-Hakim, has issued a stern warning about the potential economic repercussions Iraq may face due to escalating regional conflicts. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the interests of the nation and its people as the ultimate demonstration of courage and responsibility.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, during a meeting with professional and trade union elites at Baghdad Diwan, Al-Hakim highlighted the current state of escalation in the region, particularly in Syria, and the impact it could have on Iraq. He noted that Iraq is significantly affected by these conflicts and stressed the need for regional stability.
Al-Hakim underscored the importance of supporting trade unions as they represent broad segments of society. He called for a review of the legislative framework governing their work to strengthen their national and professional role. He also addressed the transfer of terrorists to Iraqi prisons, outlining conditions for the international community to meet, including repatriation, security expenses, and judicial processes.
The Iraqi economy is also under pressure due to declining oil prices, Al-Hakim pointed out. He called for transparency with the public about the economic reality to help them accept necessary austerity measures. He advocated for strategic solutions to economic challenges, emphasizing the need to diversify the economy and reduce reliance on oil by activating sectors such as agriculture, industry, and technology.
Al-Hakim expressed the need for adherence to constitutional timelines, including the election of a President of the Republic. He expressed regret over a tweet against the Coordination Framework’s candidate and warned of serious economic repercussions if national autonomy and interests are not prioritized.
