Baghdad: Speaker of Parliament Haibat al-Halbousi affirmed that the issue of restricting weapons is a constitutional provision that does not require new legislation, and that the authority to restrict weapons rests with the President of the Republic.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Halbousi, speaking at the eighth Baghdad Dialogue session today, emphasized the importance of respecting Iraq’s constitutional framework regarding weapon control. He highlighted that no new legislation is needed as the constitution already provides the necessary guidelines, with the President holding the authority to enforce these restrictions.

During his address, Al-Halbousi also touched upon Iraq’s foreign relations, stressing the importance of maintaining respectful ties with neighboring countries. He urged them to refrain from interfering in Iraqi affairs and to uphold the nation’s sovereignty.
