Accra:Parliament Speaker Hebat al-Halbousi affirmed that state institutions serve as the unifying framework for all Iraqis during a speech delivered at the memorial ceremony for former President Jalal Talabani’s ninth anniversary.
According to Iraqi News Agency, al-Halbousi emphasized that commemorating ‘Mam Jalal’ recalls an era in Iraq’s history marked by immense challenges, requiring wisdom and patience to manage differences. He noted Mam Jalal’s belief that Iraq’s ethnic, religious, and sectarian diversity could achieve stability through the collective will of its people.
Al-Halbousi highlighted Mam Jalal’s pivotal role in bridging political viewpoints and fostering dialogue during his presidency, stressing that state institutions, the constitution, and respect for diversity are essential for political stability and national unity.
Al-Halbousi also stated that the Council of Representatives is committed to promoting understanding among government branches, strengthening state-citizen trust, and enacting laws that align with Iraqi aspirations, safeguard rights, and ensure equal opportunities without discrimination. He concluded by urging Iraq to learn from its prominent figures to achieve state-building through constitutional consensus and a secure future for future generations.
