Baghdad: The Al-Karkh Criminal Court issued death sentences and life imprisonment for the killer of Baghdad Provincial Council member Safaa Al-Mashhadani.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement by the Supreme Judicial Council indicated that the convicted man planted an explosive device under the victim’s vehicle, resulting in his death on October 15, 2025, in the Al-Tarmiya area. The sentence was issued in accordance with Article 406/1/A/B of the Penal Code No. 111 of 1969, as amended.

The same court also issued a second sentence against the defendant, sentencing him to life imprisonment for the attempted murder of four people who were with the victim during the incident. Emergency medical services prevented their deaths. The sentence was issued in accordance with the provisions of Article 406/1/A/B/31 of the same law.
