Al-Lami: Integrity Commission Protects Honest Investors and Stands Firm Against Corruption

Basra: The head of the Federal Integrity Commission, Mohammed Ali Al-Lami, stressed the importance of creating a suitable environment for investment, reconstruction, and development, affirming that the Commission ‘protects the honest and competent investor but acts as a firm sword against the corrupt and those who encroach upon public funds.’

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission stated that during his meeting with the management and staff of Basra Investigation Directorate, Al-Lami called for intensifying efforts to combat corruption and safeguard public money. He noted that ‘cleansing state institutions of corruption paves the way for a healthy work environment that ensures successful reconstruction, revitalized investment, and enhanced development.’

He emphasized that Basra Province represents Iraq’s economic gateway, as its oil revenues and land and sea border crossings contribute a significant share to the state budget. He stressed the need for accuracy and impartiality in handling corruption reports and for speedy resolution of cases to prevent project delays or stoppages.

Al-Lami also advocated for strengthening legal awareness and preventive education programs in government institutions to protect employees from falling into corruption traps. He highlighted the need to balance investigative and educational efforts within the Commission’s work.

The Integrity Commission chairman concluded his visit to Basra by meeting with the President of Basra Court of Appeal, Judge Adel Abdul Razzaq Abbas. Both sides underlined the importance of cooperation between the judiciary and the Integrity Commission in combating corruption and protecting public funds.
