Al-Maliki Affirms Government’s Plan to Protect Economic Stability

Baghdad:Nouri Al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, announced that the government is preparing to implement specific measures to protect citizens’ incomes and purchasing power, ensure market stability, and maintain economic activity.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Maliki stated on the X platform that there is a division among those concerned with Iraq’s economic affairs regarding the decision to raise the dollar exchange rate. Some support it, while others oppose it due to concerns about its impact on citizens’ purchasing power and standard of living.

He explained that adjusting the national currency exchange rate is a measure adopted by some countries facing economic crises. Its success, however, depends on the government’s ability to address negative impacts, protect citizens’ incomes, and limit repercussions on the markets.

Al-Maliki emphasized the importance of the government’s readiness to implement clear measures and mechanisms to prevent the burden of these economic strategies from falling on citizens. He also urged against using this measure as a means to incite anxiety or disrupt the atmosphere.

Al-Maliki called for the prompt announcement of solutions and measures that are capable of protecting individual income and living standards, aiming to safeguard citizens’ interests and reinforce economic stability.
