Baghdad: Head of the State of Law Coalition Nouri al-Maliki received the new Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Mohammed al-Hassan. The Special Representative conveyed the greetings of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, to the head of the State of Law Coalition, who welcomed the new head of UNAMI and congratulated him on assuming the new position in Iraq, wishing him success and prosperity.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during the meeting, discussions centered around the latest developments in Iraq’s political and economic situation, alongside the role of the United Nations in establishing security and stability in the region. The discussion also covered the aggression on Gaza and southern Lebanon, as well as the continuation of the genocidal war practiced by the Zionists.

The head of the State of Law Coalition highlighted the serious challenges facing the region due to the criminal Zionist aggression on Lebanon and Palestine
. He stressed Iraq’s supportive stance for the Palestinian cause, advocating for the Palestinians’ right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state, while also showing solidarity with the Lebanese people against the aggression.

Al-Maliki emphasized the strong relationship between Iraq and the United Nations, noting the collective desire of all political forces to consolidate security and stability within the country and enhance the living and service conditions for Iraqi citizens.

Addressing the dangerous escalation in the region, Al-Maliki called on the United Nations to play a larger role in halting the aggression against Palestinian and Lebanese peoples, providing necessary assistance to the displaced, and working towards securing peace. He denounced the international silence on the Zionist massacres committed against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples.

In response, Al-Hassan expressed his eagerness to serve in Iraq as a representative of the Secretary-General. He conveyed his
hope to establish strong relations that would help achieve the United Nations’ goals of providing assistance across various fields in Iraq.
