Baghdad: The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, emphasized that the Anfal tragedy is not merely a painful historical event, but a significant moral and national obligation that necessitates documenting the facts, supporting the victims and their families, and striving for justice and the restoration of dignity.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Mandalawi, in a statement on the anniversary of the tragedy, remarked that the Anfal crime executed by the Ba’athist regime against the Kurds 37 years ago was far more than a military operation. He described it as a dark chapter in the history of tyranny and despotism, highlighting the use of internationally banned weapons to carry out genocide against innocent people, marking an indelible scene of pain and betrayal.

Al-Mandalawi further stated that the restoration of the victims’ dignity is contingent upon the reinforcement of justice and equality, alongside the establishment of a state that honors its diversity and safeguards all its components from the recurrence of such tragedies. He assured that Parliament is committed to supporting every legal and humanitarian effort to condemn these crimes in the eyes of history and the world.
