Baghdad: Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani engaged in discussions with the Saudi Ambassador to Iraq, Abdulaziz Al-Shammari, focusing on the bilateral relations between Iraq and Saudi Arabia and exploring avenues to enhance joint cooperation across various fields.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Mashhadani lauded the historical ties between the two nations during the meeting, emphasizing the necessity of expanding political, economic, and security cooperation. This expansion aims to benefit the peoples of Iraq and Saudi Arabia and contribute to regional stability.

The dialogue also encompassed regional and international developments of shared interest, underlining the significance of ongoing coordination between Baghdad and Riyadh. Such collaboration is seen as pivotal to bolstering stability and development efforts in the region.

Ambassador Al-Shammari expressed Saudi Arabia’s appreciation for Iraq’s role in enhancing regional security and stressed the Kingdom’s commitment to forging robust strategic relations with Iraq, grounded in mutual respect and shared interests. Both parties highlighted the importance of supporting joint initiatives in investment, energy, and trade, and the activation of bilateral agreements. Additionally, they discussed the facilitation of cultural and scientific exchanges and the enhancement of parliamentary cooperation between the Iraqi House of Representatives and the Saudi Shura Council.

Concluding the meeting, Al-Mashhadani reaffirmed the Iraqi Council of Representatives’ readiness to support all efforts aimed at advancing relations with Saudi Arabia, in a way that aligns with the supreme interests of both nations.
