Baghdad: Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani and the US Charg© d’Affaires in Baghdad, Elizabeth Kennedy Trudeau, engaged in discussions on Thursday concerning the upcoming Arab Summit set to take place in Baghdad. They emphasized the critical role of the Iraqi Parliament in enacting laws that benefit the public good.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Mashhadani’s media office released a statement noting that the meeting with Elizabeth Kennedy Trudeau and her accompanying delegation also covered the bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States. The discussion aimed at strengthening ties, expanding mutual understanding, and activating friendship committees to benefit both nations.
The statement further elaborated on the conversation, highlighting discussions on the regional, Arab, and international situations along with several topics of mutual interest. A key focus was the Arab Summit scheduled for the 17th of this month in Baghdad, underscoring the Iraqi Parliament’s significant role in legislating for the public’s benefit.
The conversation also touched upon the importance of conducting parliamentary elections as planned. Al-Mashhadani pointed out that ensuring broad participation remains a significant challenge.
Additionally, al-Mashhadani highlighted the necessity of halting the conflict in the Gaza Strip, promoting calm in Yemen, supporting Syrian stability, and preventing further regional escalation, warning that the consequences of such escalation could be grave.
