Al-Mashhadani Announces Parliament’s Approval Of A Legislative Package Supporting Educators

Baghdad: Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani announced that the House of Representatives voted on a package of legislative decisions that benefit educational staff, a move that reflects the high appreciation for their vital role in building generations and developing the educational process in the country.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the voted-on law included the following paragraphs: raising professional allowances for teachers from 150,000 dinars to 300,000 dinars per month, in a move aimed at raising the standard of living and appreciating educational efforts. Additionally, a legal article has been added stipulating that service in rural areas be doubled for retirement purposes, with the aim of encouraging staff to work in remote areas and cover shortages there.

Lecturers and administrators holding 2020 contracts are to be turned into permanent contracts, representing job stability for a large segment of those who provided volunteer or temporary services in previous years. Furthermore, salaries for 2024 education contracts will be disbursed, ensuring their financial entitlements and enabling them to perform their duties without delay or marginalization.

The package also includes all educational cadres in the granting of residential plots, similar to other segments covered by government housing initiatives. These decisions were widely welcomed by educational circles, amid hopes that they will contribute to improving the educational process and providing an encouraging and stable work environment for educational competencies throughout Iraq.

According to the statement, the relevant authorities are expected to begin implementing these provisions within the next few days, in accordance with the mechanisms and procedures to be announced by the relevant ministries.
