Baghdad: Speaker of Parliament Mahmoud al-Mashhadani cast his vote in the general election for the 2025 Iraqi Parliament on Tuesday at the National Center inside the Rashid Hotel in central Baghdad. Al-Mashhadani affirmed in a press conference after casting his vote that the current level of Iraqi awareness will lead to the election of a competent parliament and government that will continue the nation-building project.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Mashhadani stated, “We succeeded in holding the elections on schedule, and we also overcame the other challenge of conducting the elections with the assistance of the security forces in a secure and democratic atmosphere, free of any violations so far.”
He added, “The anticipated challenge is awaiting the announcement of the results to determine the voter turnout in these elections, which we believe will be higher than in previous elections because the awareness of the Iraqi public is different this time.” He explained that “the current level of Iraqi awareness will lead to the election of competent representatives who will choose a competent government that will continue the nation-building project and move beyond conflicts in light of the stable security situation, because we need a government of competent individuals to build a state that guarantees the future of our promising generation.”
Al-Mashhadani believes that “the obstacles that hindered the formation of previous governments have now diminished, and there is a minor conflict, perhaps even a competition, between the blocs. This is a challenge that requires expediting the formation of the government and electing the three presidencies in order to meet the expectations of the Iraqi public.”
