Baghdad: Muqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadrist Movement, has called upon the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to desist from bombing Iraq's sacred and independent territories. He also urged rogue militias to avoid providing Gulf states with a pretext to target Iraq's holy lands.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Sadr made these remarks in a statement posted on the X app, emphasizing Iraq's significance as the land of holy sites and the capital of the Shia school of thought. He asserted that if Iraq is not used as a base for assaults on the Islamic Republic, then the IRGC should not target its sacred land. Al-Sadr also appealed to rogue militias not to provoke Gulf states into targeting Iraq.

Al-Sadr's statement further condemned the targeting of Iraq by any nation or entity and criticized the reckless actions of militias that risk dragging Iraq into unnecessary conflict. He called upon the Iraqi government to ensure security, uphold sovereignty, and protect the Iraqi people and their holy sites, urging avoidance of sectarian conflicts.

He stressed the need for peace, highlighting that the ongoing war has severely depleted Iraq's resources and dignity. Al-Sadr also warned against sleeper cells of terrorism that exploit sectarianism to destabilize Iraq's security.

In closing, al-Sadr issued a plea for peace to neighboring countries, advocating for a future free from foreign intervention, normalization, and colonial dominance.
