Al-Sudani Affirms Progress in School Construction and Housing Initiatives

Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has confirmed that the construction of schools is progressing well, with directives issued to governors to provide land for new developments.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani, during a meeting with the head of the Iraqi Teachers Syndicate, Adi Hatem Al-Issawi, and members of the Central Council of the Syndicate, emphasized the government's commitment to education. The meeting was held on Teacher's Day, in the presence of the Minister of Education, where Al-Sudani extended congratulations to educators on the advent of Ramadan and Teacher's Day, recognizing their significant contributions to society.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the government has prioritized the education sector within its program, achieving 80% of the targets set for the Ministry of Education. This achievement underscores the collaborative efforts of stakeholders involved. Al-Sudani noted that the government has overseen projects involving more than 10,000 schools, with 1,341 school buildings completed and work initiated on 600 schools under the "Edoba Project."

Al-Sudani outlined the government's strategy to involve the private sector in school construction projects, ensuring financial commitments are met through an installment system. He reiterated the importance of supporting educational initiatives and enforcing legal measures against any misconduct towards teachers.

The Prime Minister also addressed the issue of school dropouts, indicating a positive trend due to efforts by the Ministry of Education. Additionally, Al-Sudani discussed housing initiatives, including residential projects in Baghdad and other governorates, highlighting cooperation with the private sector to address the housing crisis.

He announced the distribution of residential plots in the Nahrawan area and Muthanna Governorate, emphasizing plans to negotiate with developers to make housing affordable for educators. These measures are part of the government's broader strategy to expand housing access to all citizens, not just specific segments.

Al-Sudani reaffirmed the government's ongoing support for the educational community through collaboration with the Ministry of Education and consultants, ensuring that both educational and housing needs are addressed.
