Baghdad: Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, chaired an extraordinary meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security on Sunday. The meeting focused on reviewing the security and military situation, given the recent escalation and tension in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Council expressed Iraq’s solidarity with the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is currently facing Zionist aggression aimed at expanding the conflict and destabilizing regional and international security. The Council reiterated Iraq’s readiness to offer all possible assistance to the Iranian people in addressing the effects of this aggression.

During the meeting, Al-Sudani emphasized the importance of taking necessary measures to maintain security within Iraq. He noted his previous directives to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to engage with international and UN bodies to uphold Iraqi sovereignty and reject violations by the Zionist entity.

Al-Sudani also renewed his directives to facilitate the transfer and return of Iraqis stranded in the region, including those in Iran. The meeting further discussed relevant issues, including the regional crisis. Al-Sudani highlighted the capability of state agencies to maintain internal stability and their professional ability to confront challenges.

The Council underscored the importance of legally prosecuting those who incite sedition and spread falsehoods, exploiting the regional situation to undermine the country’s stability.
