Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani chaired a special meeting today, Sunday, to enhance opportunities for sulfur investment for export and to provide the state budget with additional resources that contribute to expanding the non-oil economy. The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Oil and Industry, as well as a number of advisors and relevant officials.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Sudani listened to a comprehensive presentation on the availability of sulfur and other minerals that can be exported, along with a roadmap of measures taken in this regard. This included the quantities and types of minerals, in addition to the prices adopted according to international market rates.
Al-Sudani followed up on the efforts exerted by the Iraqi Oil Marketing Company (SOMO) in the field of exports, contract signing, and working with specialized service companies to collect and prepare sulfur in dedicated warehouses for exporting raw materials. He also reviewed the local investment licenses granted and the extent of domestic demand for the relevant products.
Al-Sudani directed the formation of a committee comprising representatives from several relevant ministries, in addition to security agencies, to conduct a comprehensive study on sulfur consumption and the local industries involved in it.
